Martin R. Schmidt, age 79, former owner of Martin R. Schmidt Furniture Store in the Manoa section of Havertown passed away at his home in Newtown Square, Pa on Sunday February 7, 2010.
Born March 7, 1930 in Havertown, Pa. to Helen Brown and Herman Schmidt. He was raised in Havertown and graduted from West Catholic High School for Boys. He lived most of his adult life in Broomall and Newtown Square.
Martin was a Mr. Fix-It, he could do anything and always had a project going.
He had a home in the Virgin Islands for many years and belonged to the Navy League there.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy (nee Frazier) Schmidt, son Steven M. Schmidt, he was predeceased by his daughter, Linda D. Schmidt. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Family and friends may call 10 to 10:45 AM Friday February 12 in the Funeral Home of John Stretch, 236 E. Eagle Rd, Havertown. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 AM in St. Denis Church, Havertown. Interment will be in West Laurel Hill Cemetery, Bala Cynwyd, Pa.
In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to Neighborhood Hospice, 400 Marshall St, West Chester, Pa. 19380.
